| 1967 Austin Healey 3000 BJ8 | $40,500.00 |
MotorCarTrader.com is proud to offer this special Austin Healey with a unique and documented history. This car is for someone who appreciates history on a car and great ownership throughout its life. Also for someone who appreciate a really good car! The gentleman we purchased this car from owned this Austin Healey for about 25 years. He kept records of the extensive work he had done to maintain the car and improve the car. There is a large folder that goes with the car of the work he had done. In addition, the prior owner kept a very detailed log of everything he did to the car mechanically and cosmetically since 1971 with the exact miles logged at every entry. Also the log has the locations where the car has traveled through the year. This is very hard to find in any classic car and makes this car a unique Austin Healey. The car was very well maintained throughout the years. One of the major items was an engine rebuild at 89,450 miles. The log goes up until November 10 of 1985. It was sold the nice gentleman (we purchased the car from) in February of 1987. The advertisement in the Washington Post from February 21, 1987 when he purchased the car, is included in the documentation. This car has all the history anyone would want. Any old car can be restored to look nice, but this extensive history on this car cannot be replicated.
As expected from having great history and maintenance records, this car runs and drives excellent as well. There is no hesitation upon acceleration and the car shifts very smooth with no noises in any of the gears. The electric overdrive works and engages nicely. Furthermore, the car stops well and handles very nice. The engine compression on the car is excellent, ranging from 165 psi to 175 on all 6 cylinders and the oil pressure is great as well. It also has a Heritage Certificate to confirm Authenticity. This great Austin Healey was produced the 16 to 26 of September 1966 and was originally Black with red interior. The Date of Despatch was September 29, 1966 where it went to a Dealer in Philadelphia, PA.
To elaborate on the condition of this car, as I always try to represent my cars as honestly as I can:
Paint/body: The paint on the car is older. The original color on this car was black and it was changed to the correct Austin Healey color of Old English White. The paint still presents well, but it does not have perfect paint. There are small chips throughout the body. The body itself is very straight and solid. The doors shut nice and solid. Austin Healey (as I am an Austin Healey lover as well) will notice that the rear signals lights are different then the typical large amber signal lights found on a car of this year. We have no records to prove if and when this was changed going back to 1971. The previous owner did not know of any alterations done to the rear of the car and it has probably been this way for over 40 years. It does not bother us, did not bother previous owner, as it has been this way for a very long time and looks good, but thought I would mention it, as Austin Healey people will bring it to my attention. In any case, the paint is still nice on the car, just older and has some chips. It does NOT need a repaint, just the nature of an older paint job.
Chrome: The chrome looks like it is mostly in nice original condition. There is some cloudiness in the chrome and scuffs from over the years, but still really good for its age of 45 years.
Interior: The interior is mostly original. It was refurbished (new foam, door panels, rear panels, center console, carpet.) The wood dash looks like it was redone as it looks new. The passenger side rear seat has some stitching coming loose.
Soft top/Tonneau Cover/boot-The Soft top is newer and very good condition. It is not brand new, but is not old and tired either. There is no discoloration in the rear window. It fits well and the assist/return springs actually work (most don’t). The top boot and tonneau cover are in similar condition.
Wheels/Tires: The wheels on the car look to be originals. According to the records, they were refurbished (repainted) a while ago. They are in good original condition. They are not chrome. I have been selling Austin Healey 3000s for a long time and it always amazes me with some Austin Healey buyers how they love the way chrome wire wheels, and pass on nice cars that don’t have them. Chrome wire wheels can always be added very easily, to a car to give it more of a “pop.” If the next owner wanted to replace these with chrome, we would be happy to point them in the right direction. The tires are older tires, but not dry rotted and worn where they can’t be used, just older correct size tires.
Underside/floors: The frame and outriggers are some of the straightest you will find. The car was originally black, so there is black underneath the car. It is not overly detailed underneath, but anyone who knows healeys can see that the frames rails, outriggers and floors are all solid. Also there is no rust.
Engine Compartment: The engine compartment when we received the car needed to be detailed. The engine bay was still black (because black was the original color for this car), so we had the engine professionally degreased, detailed and painted. In addition, the areas around the engine were also degreased and detailed as well. A before picture is available.
Spare tire Compartment: The spare tire compartment is clean with the correct size spare. It also has a scissor jack (not the original Shelley jack) and knock off hammer. The boot (trunk) opens and closes with ease.
Overall: This is a very nice Healey with more documentation and mechanical history then most of the classic cars out there today. In fact, we would say it probably has more history then 99% of the Austin Healeys on the road today. As said above, it very difficult to find a car this nice with all this documentation with it, as having only a few owners since it was almost new. You can always restore a car, but you cannot replicate the history or originality. In addition, this Austin Healey also is a great, great driver car that can enjoyed. It is not a trailer queen or Concour car (not meant to be), but is a car to have fun with. We are hopeful that the next owner has this car for a long time and takes proper care of the car as well as the previous two owners did. We also hope they keep up with the maintenance log and files the records, so this car keeps its unique history through the coming years. Like we said earlier, this is a very special car and looking for a very special next home!
